The Couples Lab by Sync & Thrive.

Welcome to Sync & Thrive. You design everything else together. Why not your health? Every Friday, we share how to move, connect, nourish, and recover as a team. New here? Subscribe.

👋 Happy Tuesday, Ladies and Gents,

On Friday we told you it was coming, and today it's here.

Episode 1 of The Couples Lab is live!

🎙️ In it, we share why we started Sync & Thrive and what it grew out of, after more than 21 years of marriage. Most couples are couples by default, not by design. We're choosing to design ours, and this episode is where that story starts.

A new episode will land in your inbox every Tuesday. Along with it, we'll share a few things we're using, watching, and talking about that week. Here's what we have for you today.

What we’re watching

We've been rewatching ABC's Lost and sharing it with our adopted 26-year-old daughter (I bet you didn't know that about us, but we'll save that for another time). We are in the first season, and even at 22 years old, the show is still captivating.

What we’re listening to

Four years ago, we saw this French electro-pop duo play in Seattle. We purchased their LP at the concert, and there is something special when we think back to those fun memories together.

What caught our eye

Senolytics and zombie cells. As we get older, cells in our body get damaged and begin to wear out. They stop working, yet refuse to die. These are called zombie cells, and they stir up inflammation around them. To overcome these cells, scientists are studying a group of compounds called senolytics, which target zombie cells and clear them out. Oxytocin, which we know as the bonding hormone, is showing up in the same aging research, and it is now being sold by prescription for stress and longevity, which is an off-label use. In people, the results on stress and anxiety are mixed, and the anti-aging findings come from animal studies. All of this is early research, so talk to your doctor before trying any of it.

What got us: the hormone being bottled for longevity is the same one your body makes when you hug or are intimate with your person.

What made us laugh

You don’t need to know Italian to understand this reel and the effect that Girl Power can have. Watch it with your partner for a good laugh together.

What we’re talking about

Over the last couple of years, psyllium husk has been dubbed "Nature's Ozempic" or you may have even heard it called the "Poor Man's Ozempic" because of its link to the latest weight loss medication. Regardless of the name calling, it's been doing a lot more for your heart. We know. This month, Aaron's labs came back and they looked great. He had been taking niacin to lower his cholesterol and increase his HDL. However, after the initial drop, he wasn't hitting the results our doctor was expecting to see. His evening routine was switched to red yeast rice and an omega supplement. We also upped his intake of fiber during the day, and the changes proved to be beneficial. Together they not only lowered his cholesterol but also increased his HDL to 48 mg/dl! That is fantastic since he's almost at his target number. Talk to your doctor before you change your own routine.

That’s it! Have a wonderful rest of your week.
